How areanimal hair properties impact the polishing process

Hairs from animals, such as hog, horse, and goats, are widely used in brushes. One of the major type of these brushes is polishing brush, usually applied with polishing compounds. However, there are lots of cases in our experiences that unsuitable polishing compound degrade the polishing performance, or demage the polishing brush. Now, let’s figure out some perspectives of animal hairs and check how to get all benifits from animal hairs during polishing process.

First, the all types of animal hairs are absorbent; The absorption rates are 10% – 13%. This property sould be considered first while choosing polishing compound, it is greatly different from wire and poly-fillaments. Sencond, over 95% polishing brushes made by animal hairs are hand-laced. In hand-laced polishing brushes, all fillaments are connected together, partial destortion may cause whole brush failed. Third, types of animal hair having different stiffness and thinkness, choosing correct one by application and purpose is very important.

Support by Honway Material Co. Ltd.,  polishing compoud to maximum the benifits and performance need to consider many attribute dimensions:

  • Liquidity should be suitable for hair types
  • Capillary effects of hair types
  • Smoonthness/dryness of polishing compoud while it applied
  • typical properties of compoud, suchas grits, mixed ratio, abrasive types

To get the best performance and surface result, it is necessary to choose correct type of animal hair, brush type, and polishing compounds. DTC/Brutex Industries Inc. and Honway Material Co. Ltd. are bring the best polishing solution with finest surface to clients. Please contact us and describe your applications and targets, we are happy solving problems and creating portfilio!

Brush wire plays the major element of any kind of brushes, and this article is going to discuss the selection of wires to made a good brush.

In CHOOSING A GOOD SCRATCH BRUSH, we conceptly mentioned that the number of wire ends will great impact the brush performance, and now let’s explore related wire properties, which includes:

● Wire Hardness
Toughness, Tensile Strength, and Yeild Strength
Crimped Pattern

The first property, wire hardness, basically determine the target removal rate of the brush. Harden wires transit source forces pushed from handle/stud by direct or indirect mehod with fewer losses, therefore brush gets higher performance from perspective of removal rates.

The toughness, which is decide by both tensile strength and yeild strength. Toughness impacts the lifespan of brush wires. lower toughness will cause the wire broken or unusable in short time.

Crimped pattern will increase the lifespan and touching area during operation of wires(citation). However crimped pattern increase the wire volume, weight, and somehow lower the hardness of wire. Since the wire volume increased, the production cost increase. Furthermore, the number of wire ends and brush performance reduced

Ideally, brush wires are expected to be strong wires: great hardness, toughness, and straighted; but these properties not only limited by wire dimaters but also, similar to steels, toughness and hardness are conflicted.

Nowadays, the solution about wire properties is choosing the wire with correct properties based on real applications, and this is also the major service offer by DTC/Brutex Industries Inc. Please checkout our product page, and feel free to consult/contact us.

A good scratch brush is a useful tool for mechanican. Scratch brushes provides a fast and easy way to clean parts and tools. A quality scratch brush brings the best performance to mechanican while they doing aftercares.

Basically, the performance of scratch brushes could be discussed in to perspectives. The first one is target removal rate, and another is lifespan.

Fig1. The number of wire end

The target removal rate was greatly determinded by number of tips available of a scratch brush. This is because that over 90% operations of a scratch brush are happened on wire ends. Fig 1 displays the wire tips of a scratch brush, higher number of tips, higher target removal rate of a scratch brush.

Another key factor of performance, lifespan, can be judged by the toughness and yield strength of wires used by the scrach brush. This is because the wire will have elastic deformation during it’s operation. higher yeild strength will ensure the resistanceof wire and keep tips’ functions. Fig 2 and Fig 4 reveal the difference of wire resistance.
